The winning project that Turin presented to FAI provided for maximum geographical concentration of the competitions to allow spectators to move easily between the various sites.
The Games are centred on the Turin Airport Aeritalia; only the hangglider and paraglider contests are planned further away at the Avigliana Lakes (with a nearby mountain for launching and a lake for safety for the aerobatics), and the hot air balloons will compete at Mondovì (area free of approach paths to airports and with superb meteorological conditions).
The World Air Games Turin 2009 will take place from 6 to 14 June 2009 in three distinct localities:
Turin Aeritalia Airport (LIMA)
Turin Aeritalia is one of the oldest airfields in Italy, inaugurated in 1916, and is located on the North Western edge of the city.
It is connected to the centre of Turin and to the railway stations by the Metropolitana (underground railway) and a dense network of surface transport.
Turin Caselle Airport is quickly reached by a main highway.
The major highway network is close by.
Turin Aeritalia is open to civilian traffic, and has Control Towers, three parallel runways – of which one asphalted – and includes a helicopter landing pad certified for night traffic – landing and take-off.
The Airport is the base for:
L'Aero Club Torino
Founded in July 1908 as the "Italian Association for the Promotion of Aviation" (APIA), it changed its name in1909 to "Società di Aviazione Torinese - SAT" to then become the "Aero Club Torino", affiliated to the new-born Aero Club d'Italia which covered all the Italian aeronautical activities.
Control Towers (AFIS)
Supplies information to aircraft landing and taking off as well as met assistance, from dawn to dusk.
Flying Schools
Every year, courses are run for Private Pilot, Gliding and helicopter licences.
JAR 145 (Engine and body) certificated maintenance workshop
Completely equipped for the ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of aircraft, whether based on site or coming from outside. Performs Daily Inspections on the FlyingSchool aircraft.
Fire Service
The airport has afire service (auto-pump, ambulance, trained fire personnel etc.) on-call for immediate action.
Fuel Pumps
Avigliana
Situated at the foot of the Alps at 14 km from the Aeroporto Torino Aeritalia (principal contest site).
For the two lakes, the proximity to Turin, for its beauty, for its position at the foot of the mountains (with their take-off areas) Avigliana is the ideal location for the hang-gliding and paragliding competitions.
Mondovì
Mondovì, 70 km by motorway from Turin, is in the province of Cuneo.
15 km away is the Cuneo-Levaldigi Airport (LIMZ).
The province of Cuneo is world-famous for its great wines and gastronomic specialities.
Mondovì is the base of one of the most important aerostatic flying schools, thanks to its particular meteorological condition: there are very few sites in the world that can offer the sort of flying which is the norm here. It is often possible to carry out long duration and long distance flights, returning to the point of departure.

Environmental impact
No permanent new structures are planned: the city of Turin already offers every possible necessity.
All measures necessary to minimize environmental impact of the World Air Games will be taken.
The temporary structures (terracing, stress structures, fencing, toilets) will be planned with the necessary attention to environmental aspects.
Solutions and materials will be applied which, while guaranteeing the necessary standards, will be eco- compatible to the highest extent.
In the purchasing and contractual activities, Green procurement criteria will prevail and –wherever possible- materials will be recyclable.
Refuse collection will be differentiated to the maximum, and disposal carefully controlled.
