World Air Games Turin 2009: Turin

Turin: industry, organisation, fascination, taste and the beauty of a capital

It is a magical city and richly atractive. Its history finds its roots in two thousand years of milestones, including having been the first Capital of Italy. A site which has known how to transform itself in recent years, reappraising its advantages and making them known to a wide public thanks to organising events, whether trade fairs, sports, fine cooking and wines, cultural events, and much more.

Today’s Turin, can, without fear of contradiction, consider itself one of the most avantgarde cities in Europe. Turin captures visitors’ interest and emotions with its rich and elegant architecture, the piazzas, the porticoes, the Royal residences, mansions and monuments, the cuisine, the wines, the chocolate wrought by the hands of authentic masters of the pastrymakers’ craft.

Turin offers over 40 museums, some of international standing : the Museo Egizio, the Museum of the Cinema, the Museo d'Arte Moderna di Rivoli, the Museo dell'automobile and the Galleria di Arte Moderna.

But what most surprises visitors is the human dimension of the lifestyle, which daily offers experiences to suit every taste. Everyone can find something to enjoy in Turin’s varied levels (culture, entertainment, fashion, technology, architecture, food and wine, sport).

"Turin, city of Sport", was the title recently pronounced by the Minister, Giovanna Melandri, "raising" a smile repeated on the face of the first citizen, Sergio Chiamparino. Turin also remains in the forefront of one of the city’s oldest occupations, that of a great industrial centre. It is the City of the Automobile, headquarters of Fiat, but also a long-time point of reference in the field of aeronautics, the major technological centre at national level. Leading companies arise in this field, such as Alenia and their important followers. It is no surprise then that Turin has often been selected to host major international events: the city unifies the care and warmth typical of smaller communities with the regal dimensions and with the resources and the services of a great metropolis.

Turin offers exceptional accommodation capacity, also thanks to the investment made for the Winter Olympics 2006, and excellent international transport links, by air, road and rail. In 2008, Turin will be the World Capitalof Design with a rich series of events throughout the year; it will host the World Architectural Congresswith over 7,000 participating architects and designers. In 2009, apart from the World Air Games, the European Indoor Athletics Championships and the Taste Fair, the most important in the world, that welcomes tens of thousands of visitors from all over the planet, will take the stage in Turin.
