World Air Games Turin 2009: the Test Events

Already, over the coming months, the approach phase of the World Air Games carries a rich programme of sporting occasions for each discipline in which medals will be awarded in 2009. These will, in any case, be treated as Test Events, real “dress rehearsals” with which to test and perfect the organising machine and the different locations of the World Air Games Turin 2009.

In addition, the occasion will see the athletes practising with the regulations specially planned by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale for the World Air Games and, last but not least, will offer the Piedmont public the chance to start getting to know these disciplines, enjoying some highly attractive and spectacular events at the same time.

Hang- and Para-gliding
In August 2008, Hanggliders and paragliders will enter the scene with theTest Events, at the Avigliana location, selected for the 2009 World Air Games, with a competitive event at national level open to foreign entries.

Gliding
From 28th to 30th March and 4th to 6th April 2008, the Turin Aeritalia Airport at Collegno will host the by-now traditional “City of Turin Trophy”, already a classic in the international calendar of this speciality. In view of the 2009 appointment, an official World Air Games Test Event will also be organised from 17th to 2nd June.

Hot air Balloons
The Aeroclub Mongolfiere di Mondovi will organise the Test Event for this speciality in the second week of July 2008, alongside the 21st Italian Championship, which will naturally be open and expects 40 athletes, 25 foreigners and 15 Italians.

Parachuting
The various parachuting specialities will be the protagonists of the contest valid as a World Air Games Test Event, running in the skies of Collegno’s Turin-Aeritalia airfield from 31st May to 2nd June 2008.

Aerobatics
The Turin World Air Games Test Event for the aerobatics sections (powered and glider), will take place from 31st May to 2nd June 2008, also at the Aeritalia airfield, Collegno, based on rules similar to those to be used at the 2009 edition. The competitions will be organised according to the “open” National Championships formula, that is, they will assign the title of Italian Champion, despite being open to the participation of foreign pilots.

Helicopters
In June 2007, The Aeroclub of Turin organised the first Italian Championship for the speciality. A second edition will take place within the World Air Games Test Event between 31st May and 2nd June 2008.

Aeromodelling
The locations for this speciality will be the Palaruffini for the “Musical Indoor Aero” (indoor electric aircraft) and Turin Aeritalia at Collegno, for the radio-controlled aerobatics and hand-launched model gliders. The Test Events will be run on 7th and 8th June 2008.

Ultralights
Once again, it will be Turin Aeritalia at Collegno, hosting the Ultralight Test Event, as part of the big fair programmed for the 31st May to 2nd June 2008.
