World Air Games Turin 2009 -
The disciplines: Amateur-built, historic and experimental aircraft
History
One could argue that most pioneering aircraft have been homebuilt!
While later, the possibility of completing aircraft and seeing them fly became the exclusive prerogative of industrial organisations, amateur initiatives, though patchily at first, have been developing since the second half of the 20th century. The growth of this activity has induced the aeronautical authorities to formally sanction the legitimate construction and flying of aircraft built by private individuals, known as Amateur-built or experimental aircraft.
Events during the World Air Games
In line with the particular characteristics of Amateur-built Aircraft and those labelled Experimental, specific events have been programmed, both at the demonstration and competitive levels, efficiently integrated with fringe events correlated with them.
The objective is that of offering the public, whether expert or not, continuous entertainment at the principle World Air Games (Torino Aeritalia) airport and in covered areas in the Turn city centre.
At well-defined time periods, visitors flying in with their amateur-built aeroplanes will be able to reach the headquarters of the World Air Games.
This will create, indirectly, an extra dynamic exhibition and the public, like the media, will be able to observe aircraft that are very different from each other, meet the different constructors and hear their adventurous and fascinating stories at first hand.
